Meet Mitchell Saddleback

Mitchell Saddleback is a Vancouver-based actor, writer, comedian and storyteller from the Samson Cree Nation in Maskwacis, Alberta.  Mitchell’s spoken word and stand-up comedy have been met with enthusiastic acclaim at various venues and events across Vancouver and beyond, including countless stand-up sets at renowned comedy nights such as New Moon Comedy, Havana Moon Comedy, Millennial Line, and most recently, The Lido. Mitchell has also performed at The Drum is Calling Festival, Expressions of Reclamation (Arts Council of New Westminster showcase), From Talking Stick to Microphone, and various other events, from concerts to company parties, have featured his spoken word, stand-up and MC skills. Mitchell has appeared in a wide range of film and theatre roles. These include Cold Pursuit with Liam Neeson and Laura Dern, the New York Film Critics Circle award-winning First Cow, and several tours with Akpik Theatre for the renowned Pawakan Macbeth (a beautifully poignant Cree reimagining of the Shakespeare classic), which enjoyed a 2023 run at Neptune Theatre’s Scotiabank Studio Stage in Halifax, and various other locations in Nova Scotia and Yellowknife.

Mitchell’s current projects include The Bannocking, a web horror series that launched in October 2023 on CBC Gem, and Kids from the Rez, an innovative new Indigenous sketch comedy show, for which he was awarded the prestigious Indigenous Screen Office Development Grant. Other recent career highlights include being the keynote speaker at his Alma Mater high school’s 2022 graduation and starring in an award-winning short film for Vancouver’s Run N Gun 48 hour film festival. A storyteller, Indigenous rights advocate, and proponent of the arts, Mitchell brings a unique blend of intellect, wit, education and humour to all of his artistic endeavours.
